Legacy vs Enhanced Campaigns

Following Google’s announcement of Enhanced Campaigns, a new column has appeared in the Google AdWords interface that details whether a campaign has been upgraded or opted in and is now Enhanced or remains on the old Legacy settings.

This column can help advertisers determine which campaigns require migration and where they are with the conversion process – it is essentially a status notifier.

Remember, enhanced campaigns means you cannot target a specific device but you can see individual site link level reporting. Legacy campaigns means you can device target but many of the newer features will not be possible in this campaign such as ad group level ad extensions. Currently, when you set up a new campaign in Adwords and go through the settings, you can temporarily opt out of enhanced and set up a legacy campaign.

Ultimately, all campaigns will be enhanced by June as enforced by Google. It therefore seems likely that this campaign type column will be retired at some point during the year.

As enhanced campaigns also brings a major upgrade to ad extensions, there is a drop down to choose whether you are using upgraded or non-upgraded ad extensions (you cannot use upgraded extensions in legacy campaigns but either upgraded or non-upgraded extensions can be used in enhanced campaigns).
