When Having a Long Website Domain Pays Off

The new longer headline format which can pull in domain URLs only works when headline + domain URL is less that 68 characters. Therefore advertisers with a domain longer than 43 characters (inclusive of ‘.co.uk’ or ‘.com’) will not see this format.

However one advantage to long domain name sites is if they are eligible for seller rating extensions then these may appear over 2 lines (when on the right-hand side of search results) which means more impact. Normally, ratings appear in one line, e.g.:

However M&S have a long URL and therefore come across over two lines:

So it’s not all bad news if you have a long domain URL!
