Finally given up on Google Instant

After weeks of frustration and even trying to use Yahoo more often, this morning, the first day of 2011, I finally snapped and got rid of it…permanently. Just switching it off didn’t seem to work on my laptop – I rarely sign into Google Accounts and I delete my cookies at the end of each session so Google preferences just did not do it. I tried a Firefox configuration method and that also did not work for me. I downloaded a Google Optimizer add-on which looked promising when I unchecked ‘stream search results’ however for some reason it did not work either! At this point I was pulling my hair out. I had been using the firefox portal Google homepage however this has been malfunctioning for me lately.

Then I found this home page: http://www.google.co.uk/webhp?complete=0&hl=en – no Google Instant at last! Even in subsequent searches and even though it says Google Instant is still on, it is not! Joy!

  1. I just went to the normal http://www.google.com and instant is gone. And if you go to search preferences, the option to turn off autocomplete is back! Its probably a trick and they’ll probably have ins(is)tant back up tomorrow. Those sneaky slimeballs.
